On the 4th day of Germany's biggest poker tournament held at Grand Hyatt Hotel in Berlin (Germany), a gang of six masked gunmen armed with assault rifles (AK47), machetes and grenades entered the venue with the target of stealing the  £1million jackpot. Unconfirmed reports suggest that they ended in stealing more than £700,000 in cash.

15-Year old Holly Grogan from Gloucestershire (UK) jumped from a bridge to her death after being bullied by her classmates on Facebook over accusations of having sex with another girls' brother.

Holly's friend of three years said: '"She felt people were mean to her. I felt she was being bullied - they didn't understand how much it affected Holly.

"There were three girls who spread rumours about her and called her names. They even made up a syndrome called 'HGS', Holly Grogan Syndrome, which was put on Facebook and discussed by other girls.

"Holly didn't have access to that because she'd been taken off the group of friends. I forwarded it to her and she was very upset and started crying."

She went to an expensive private school called St Edward's School where her classmates bullied her both face to face and on the famous social networking site, Facebook. On September 16, 2009, she was approached by three classmates who bullied her about the issue and later she was sent a text advising her not to attend a party. She had been extremely upset and hours later, ended up jumping off a 30 feet bridge on to a busy freeway ("dual carriageway").

Interestingly, Holly didn't have many friends and seems like that she made up some stories to get some friends like - she had epilepsy, her brother was dead and her parents were splitting, all of which were untrue. Seems like her lies didn't go very well with a lot of her classmates and a lot of "unpleasant comments" were posted online.

Summing up the case Mr Dooley said: "It was clear that she craved forgiveness for the lies she told and the desperate position she put herself in from a social standpoint, and didn't see a way of getting out of that.

"She was a very kind person and even in her extensive note that she left, she was not at all vindictive to anyone but expressed her love to her family and friends and expressed sorrow that she had not been forgiven by members of her school.

The next day during a PE class three girls accused her of sleeping with a friend's 17-year-old brother, which she denied.

Mr Grogan told the inquest: 'Holly said their questioning and accusations upset her and made her cry. The girls went on to say that Holly shouldn't go the party.'

Recalling the next morning, by which time his daughter's body had been found on the A40, Mr Grogan continued: 'My wife Anita went to wake Holly and noticed her bed hadn't been slept in.

'There was a note on the desk. I believe that it was the events of the day that tipped Holly over the edge.'

• We all know school and especially high school is tough. Schools can monitor people in school but social networking seem to open a new channel for bullying. Who monitors these social networks?
• Why didn't the parents intervene when the problems were first told?
• Does an expensive school mean a better school?

I would say, talk to your kids regularly and listen to them. Times have changed a lot since we went to high school and it is more important to listen and understand their issues. We might not have all the answers, but we can still prevent them from issues like this.

After the Christmas day bomber's bid to blow up an airliner last year, security at airports around the world went up with full body scanners installed at almost all major airports. The way it works is, randomly selected passengers are asked to go for the scan. The scan which shows a picture of the passenger under his/her clothes is reviewed by security person in a room. Recently, two passengers came in limelight after they refused to go through the scanner in Manchester, UK. The passengers were two Muslim women who were flying from Manchester, UK to Islamabad, Pakistan. The first one refused on religious grounds and the other one gave medical reasons. As a result of their refusal, they were barred from flying on the flight.The passengers eventually decided they would rather forfeit their £400 tickets and left the airport with their luggage.

Alex Deane, director of campaign group Big Brother Watch, said the organisation would represent the women if they wished to challenge the decision in court.
 
He said: 'People shouldn't have to sacrifice their health, their faith, their dignity, or their privacy in order to fly.

Engines, munitions, wiring and electronics are all recycled to help lower the cost of maintaining the current-day fleet. In 2005, staff at the facility recycled more than 19,000 parts worth $568million (£366million).

The U.S. government even allows the military in other countries to buy parts and even planes from the site.

The facility is the size of 1,300 football pitches.

The site has been a curiosity for eagle-eyed Google Earth users since the satellite imagery software was launched in 2005, but now for the first time it is available to view in high resolution.

The desert is a perfect place to store the mass of steel, because low humidity and rainfall means very little rust occurs. In addition, the hard soil means they can be parked up without the need for building concrete ramps.

Poppy, a three-year-old springer spaniel, was chasing a seagull when she ran off the clifftop in East Sussex (UK) to a 300 feet drop. Miraculously she was saved from a terrible tragedy. Due to her speed she skipped over the beach and landed on the waves.

Poppy was being taken for a walk by Lia Markwick and Stephen Winslade, as a favour to her owners, Lia's brother Ben Markwick and his partner Kelly Ixer.

It would seem the excitement of the sea air got the better of her as she ran away from Miss Markwick and Mr Winslade near the clifftop at the Seven Sisters' beauty spot in Seaford.

Miss Markwick, 29, said: 'We were about 100 yards from the edge and she was to the side of us away from the cliffs but she saw this seagull and just bolted.

'She is normally very obedient but we called at her to stop and she didn't.

'She carried on and just went over the edge at such speed. It all happened so quickly. I thought "Oh my God" and then felt physically sick.

'Stephen peered over the edge, expecting the worse but he saw her paddling in the sea and barking.

'The cliff had a overhang so we couldn't see that there was a small beach below which Poppy was heading towards.

Recently she got a package with all the jewelry and an unsigned apology by the burglar which said -

"Please forgive me, I so sorry I steal from you…so many bad things happen because I steal from you, I so sorry."

The note also described the tragedies that the burglar like losing his wife, etc. which he accounted to his theft.

The necklaces, bracelets, rings and earrings came back to their rightful owners in a padded package addressed to the same home they were stolen from.

“I said ‘Look here it is all here,'” Suzie Fronterotta said. “I can’t believe he didn’t sell it."

While some pieces were more expensive, Fronterotta said she is grateful for the return of sentimental pieces like a nearly 30-year-old pearl necklace and a bracelet given to her by a family member shortly before his death.

“I wish him well, he did the right thing by returning my stuff and I wish him well. I hope his life gets better,” she said.

The latest craze is - swallowing parasitic worms to lose weight fast! Chinese-language websites have been offering products containing potentially fatal parasites as a means of losing weight quickly without eating less. The weight loss remedies use the eggs of Ascaris worms – giant intestinal roundworms which grow up to 15in in length in a host's intestine and lay up to 200,000 more eggs a day inside the body.

Obviously, a parasitic worm is very harmful to the body. It not only makes you lose weight fast but also can cause you to lose your life!

A spokesman for Hong Kong's department of health said swallowing the parasites could cause abdominal pain and distension, vomiting, diarrhoea and malnutrition.

"Parasite infestation may also be fatal if serious complications such as intestinal, biliary tract or pancreatic duct obstruction arise," the spokesman said. "The worms may even invade such organs as the lungs.

"The infestation can be treated with medication that kills the parasite. The worms may require surgical removal if there are obstructions."
